La regola
Brevi, e ich ed er condividono una forma, come in tedesco: ich cha, du chasch, er cha, mir chönd (können) · ich mues, du muesch, mir müend (müssen) · ich wott, du wotsch, mir wänd (wollen) · ich darf, mir dörfed (dürfen) · ich söll, mir sölled (sollen). Un'unica forma plurale vale per mir, ihr e si. Al passato il modale resta all'infinito: «Ich ha nöd chönne cho».
Ich cha hüt nöd cho.
Ich kann heute nicht kommen.
Mir müend no poschte.
Wir müssen noch einkaufen.
Wänd Sie no öppis trinke?
Wollen Sie noch etwas trinken?
Dove ci si blocca
«wott» e «wänd» significano wollen (volere) — niente ricorda «will». E «Ich sött» è il cortese «ich sollte» che si sente di continuo: «Ich sött no schaffe».
