You follow these — you would never say them
ine, use, ufe, abe — no hin or her
The rule
Direction words end in -e: ine (in), use (out), ufe (up), abe (down), ume (over, around). One word serves both directions.
Chömed Sie ine!
Kommen Sie herein!
Ich gang schnäll abe.
Ich gehe schnell hinunter.
Bringsch de Güsel use?
Bringst du den Abfall hinaus?
Where it catches you
German separates «hin» (away from me) from «her» (towards me): hinein and herein. Zurich German does not: «Chömed Sie ine» and «Gönd Sie ine» use the same ine. Do not look for the difference — it is in the verb, not in the direction word.
